Amazing Young Fundraisers

Vaquita girls - Bejing

Western Academy, Beijing, China

The following note is from three girls who raised $800 to help the vaquita.

We first found out about the vaquitas on the Internet. So for our fifth grade project at the Western Academy of Beijing we decided to raise money for the vaquitas because there are so few of them. To raise money we held three bake sales.

Two of them were at our school and one of them was in our neighborhood. We raised a total of 5000 RMB ($800 USD). We hope our donation will help keep the vaquitas from becoming extinct!

Students American School Vienna1 Austrian Fundraiser 3

American International School, Vienna, Austria

Elementary students at the American International School Vienna participate in the ES Earth Week Fun Run every year. This year, they choose to donate the proceeds to two organizations, including Save the Whales. Students found sponsors for each lap they ran and were very dedicated to saving the whales and protecting wildlife in Europe. They ran over 7000 laps combined and raised over 6800 Euros! 3500 Euros will go to protect vaquitas and help outreach programs in schools around the US through Save the Whales.

The students from both schools were moved by the plight of the vaquita. For more information on vaquita.

Thank you for signing up for our Eletters and helping us help marine mammals.

We do not share our email lists with other organizations.

Sincerely,

Inspirations

For seven years, we have been posting inspirations from children who have - through their ingenuity and caring - raised funds for Save The Whales. We are inspired as well as impressed and moved. The contributions highlighted this month from Austria and China will be used in our efforts to save the vaquita, the most endangered porpoise in the world with 200 or less remaining in the Sea of Cortez, Baja, Mexico.

Family Cares for Injured Orca

A disabled killer whale, missing its dorsal fin and one pectoral fin, is being cared for by his family pod. They help him by catching prey and sharing food. The young male orca was captured on film by photographer Rainer Schimpf while he was filming off Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
