Dear Save The Whales' Supporters through Monterey County Gives!
You supported us last year and we are calling on you once again to help us with our Big Idea.
Many inland school children (Salinas, Chualar, Gonzales, Soledad, Greenfield, and King City) do not have a connection to the ocean. Save The Whales wants to change this.
Your Monterey Gives! donations will help purchase a custom-made, life-size inflatable humpback whale designed to replicate Humphrey, the famous whale who swam inland up the Sacramento River. This will be added to our menu of innovative school programs. So far we have educated over 300,000 children around Monterey Bay with hands-on, interactive, outreach programs! Save The Whales once again has been reviewed and voted a Top-Rated Nonprofit by GreatNonProfits.
Children will be able to crawl inside Humphrey and learn that whales are mammals, too, and they need our help to survive. Hands-on stations outside the whale will have bones, baleen, and a feeding station to learn how whales feed. The kids will learn about the challenges that whales and other marine mammals face in the ocean, such as litter and plastic bags that enter the ocean through storm drains and are deadly to marine life.
Humphrey will provide an unforgettable, inspiring, learning experience for Monterey County students! Children will learn that they can make a difference and that what they do on land impacts the ocean no matter how far away they live!
Elementary school students excited to be touching whale baleen!
You supported our "Hope for the Oceans" campaign and, with the help of disabled adults, we were able to place emblems above 300 storm drains to help protect our ocean environment.
